MTU and Tognum America selected Donaldson's PJAC filtration systems for the General Dynamics Land Systems GCV power pack, consisting of the MTU Series 880 engine, generator, cooling system, air filtration system, transmission and generator.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — OCTOBER 21, 2012 — Donaldson Company, Inc. (NYSE: DCI), the world’s leading provider of unmatched filtration systems to enhance performance and reliability of military, aerospace and heavy industry vehicles, will provide its state-of-the-art Pulse-Jet Air Cleaner (PJAC) engine air filtration technology for the U.S. Army’s new Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV) program.

MTU and Tognum America, subsidiaries of Tognum Group in Friedrichshafen, Germany, selected Donaldson’s PJAC filtration systems for the General Dynamics Land Systems GCV “power pack,” consisting of the MTU Series 880 engine, generator, cooling system, air filtration system, transmission and generator.  This means Donaldson PJAC filters may be utilized on more than 1,870 GCVs when low rate initial production begins in 2018, followed by full production in 2021.

“Donaldson’s new partnership with MTU means that the Army’s GCV will utilize the world’s most effective engine air filtration solution,” said Pierre Habran, Director of Aerospace & Defense Europe, Middle East & Africa at Donaldson Company. “Our involvement with this essential developmental effort is a source of tremendous pride for Donaldson, and it means that future U.S. armored fighting vehicles will provide improved capability and unprecedented reliability in support of armed forces’ operations, even in the world’s most difficult operational environments.  Improving equipment capability to protect U.S. and allied troops is our highest priority.”

Under the terms of its contract, Donaldson will provide PJAC filter systems and components for factory installation on GCV prototype power packs as well as technical assistance throughout the program phase.

Donaldson’s PJAC system uses controlled pulses of compressed air to automatically clean the intake filter. Designed with Donaldson Ultra-Web® nanofiber filtration technology, the PJAC provides the industry's highest level of efficiency and service life. The prototype system will include Donaldson’s advanced scavenge-air pre-cleaning section and the Vee-Pac™ inlet barrier filter to provide the best dust and particle protection available today.  The Vee-Pac barrier filter contains Donaldson’s Ultra-Web nanofiber filtration media, the industry’s most efficient filtration material, which prevents clogging by capturing tiny particles on the filter’s surface for efficient continued air flow and easy maintenance and cleaning.
