WASHINGTON – U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced a $1.1 million Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grant to rehabilitate a taxiway at Waterloo Regional Airport.

This project will ensure that taxiway pavement at the airport continues to offer a safe surface for aircraft traffic.

“This grant will help improve safety at Waterloo Regional Airport,” said Secretary LaHood. “Making important investments in our aviation system promotes safety and economic growth in communities across the country.”

The FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will fund the reconstruction of taxiway pavement and create a new surface for aircraft to taxi on.

“This funding not only improves safety, it also provides a more efficient operations area for the movement of aircraft,” said Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta.

AIP provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects that are vital to maintaining the safety, capacity and environmental stewardship of our nation’s airports. More than 3,300 airports nationally are eligible for AIP grants benefiting commercial passengers, cargo operations and general aviation activities.
