AirAsia Signs Fuel & Carbon Solutions Agreement with GE

EVENDALE, OH - July 18, 2012 - AirAsia has signed a Fuel and Carbon Solutions agreement with GE Aviation. As part of this agreement, GE will use proprietary decision software and fuel-consulting expertise to help AirAsia identify and track operational improvements that could reduce the airline's fuel usage and emission.

"AirAsia has experienced rapid growth since it was established in 2001 with about 200 CFM56-5B-powered Airbus A320 aircraft in service and an additional 150 CFM56 and 400 LEAP engines on order," said John Gough, GE Aviation's Fuel and Carbon Solutions leader. "With Fuel and Carbon Solutions, GE will work with AirAsia to help the airline enhance its operations and reduce the airline's fuel spend by about three percent, which can equal significant savings on the expanding fleet."

"AirAsia is committed to ensuring that environmental responsibility underpins our core values. Our goal is to make sustainability and efficiency the key to our operations. GE's Fuel and Carbon Solutions provides a highly sophisticated IT platform to allow our team to make accurate comparisons of the effectiveness of our operational procedures with real fuel and emissions data," said Bo Lingam, AirAsia's Chief Operations Officer.

Fuel typically accounts for about 30 percent of an airline's expenses. The volatility in fuel prices has prompted airlines to look for ways to manage this major portion of their cost base more effectively. Fuel & Carbon Solutions provides a way for GE to work with its customers and develop effective fuel management solutions.

Part of GE's ecomagination portfolio, Fuel & Carbon Solutions delivers results through a three-step process:

-  Operational evaluation: Identify and collect data on the airline's current fuel and carbon reduction programs, and quantify where the customer is today.

-  Customized solution design: Further analyze data to isolate and prioritize potential improvements.

-  Implementation support and verification: Work with customers to implement changes, and then measure and validate savings.
