From the 1st of August, 2012, the European Commission will implement a new Commission Regulation (EU) No.1149/2011, which includes a regulatory system for licensing aircraft maintenance engineers. According to the new rules, at least two weeks-long practical training must be conducted at a Part 147 certified training institution for everyone seeking their Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML) endorsement with aircraft type. Those seeking it for the very first time must also carry out ‘on the job training’ at a Part 145 certified organisation.

New EASA Part 66 regulation will be beneficial for both, MROs and Part 147 organisations. According to D.Sakalauskas, the requirement to complete a practical course consisting of hands-on practical training is necessary. It must be done according to an approved syllabus.
