Shearwater Air Receives IS-BAO Certification, Practicing Top International Standards

June 14, 2012
To be IS-BAO certified, aircraft operations must go under extensive auditing programs to ensure their daily operations meet the international standards for safety, security and overall practices.

MONTEREY, CALIF. – Shearwater Air, a Monterey based jet charter and aircraft management company, is proud to announce receiving the International Standard for Business Aircraft Operations (IS-BAO) certification, created by the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) to standardized safe and highly professional business aircraft operations world-wide.

IS-BAO was developed by the industry for the benefit of the industry. It is a code of best practices designed to help flight departments world-wide achieve a high level of safety and professionalism. To be IS-BAO certified, aircraft operations must go under extensive auditing programs to ensure their daily operations meet the international standards for safety, security and overall practices.

“Being IS-BAO certified is quickly becoming a broadly accepted industry standard world-wide, and at Shearwater Air, we want to be among the leaders in aviation.” said Dave Hamilton, Director of Operations for Shearwater. Just recently, Shearwater Air also received the ARG/US Platinum Rating, the highest level of safety and excellence award and recognition given in the aviation industry.

IS-BAO was formally introduced and made available to the business aviation community at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibit (EBACE) in Geneva, May 2002. The IS-BAO project began in 2000, took over two years, and three phases until completion. The three phases included proof of concept, development and testing within a number of flight departments in Europe, North America and South America.

The IS-BAO provides a framework of a comprehensive system that integrates safety, security, efficiency and effectiveness. The program is intended to build upon the excellent safety record already established by business aviation. Currently there are 478 IS-BAO registered operators in the United States.
