Big Toy Day & Fly In Set For August 25, 2012 - Davidson County Airport, Lexington, North Carolina
Lexington, NC (June 12, 2012) – Communities in Schools of Lexington/Davidson County and Fly High Lexington have announced that the 3rd annual Big Toy Day is set for Saturday, August 25, 2012 from 10am to 2pm. Designed as a fundraiser for 24 schools in the area the event draws aviation enthusiasts and lovers of “Big Toys” from all over the region.
Most of the big toys on display are trucks and tractors, including dump trucks and concrete mixers. Law enforcement vehicles, fire trucks, vintage airplanes including a P-51 based at the airport, large base jets and vintage and modified small vehicles will also be on display. A tractor and trailer will provide hayrides for visitors from the entrance to the display area and the Young Eagles Chapter from Rowan County will be on hand to offer free rides for children.
“Our base tenants are great about being available to display their big toys during this annual event”, said Karel Van Der Linden, Director of Fly High Lexington. “By adding the Fly In we hope to increase the number of airplanes that come to the event and give the crowd a nice show”, Van Der Linden said. Crew cars will be on hand for guests to visit one of Lexington’s famous barbecue restaurants and food and beverages will also be available for purchase on the field.
