Universal Receives FAA STC for New Airborne Datalink System

The STC was issued by the FAA Transport Airplane Directorate; Los Angeles Aircraft Certification Office for the UL-80X on the Hawker Beechcraft King Air series aircraft.

Tucson, AZ – May 9, 2012 – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for Universal Avionics’ third generation Airborne Datalink System, UniLink UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit (CMU). The STC was issued by the FAA Transport Airplane Directorate; Los Angeles Aircraft Certification Office for the UL-80X on the Hawker Beechcraft King Air series aircraft. This complete STC package allows Universal Avionics to support its dealers by providing certification package data to assist in their efforts to develop STCs on other aircraft platforms.

The UniLink provides superior operations and control of digital communications between the pilot and Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in the exceedingly complex Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) Air Traffic Management (ATM) environment. The UL-800/801 provides an opportunity to take full advantage of the safety and efficiency benefits that advanced datalink capabilities offer.

The UL-800/801 interfaces with Universal Avionics’ current FMS product line with either 4” or 5” Control Display Units. For increased versatility, UL-801 includes an internal VHF Data Radio (VDR) which saves weight, space, and the installation of an external VDR. The UL-800/801 may transmit and receive data via VDR or SATCOM depending upon geographic location, reducing operational costs substantially.
