MarketPlace Development Recognized For Green Airport Efforts
Retail firm wins award for recycling efforts at Philadelphia International Airport
Queens, NY / Philadelphia, PA - (April 23, 2012) While Earth Day is celebrated annually every April, MarketPlace Development, a Massachusetts-based retail development firm that develops, leases and manages airport retail programs, thinks "green" all year long.
Developed and managed by MarketPlace Development, the Food & Shops retail programs at Philadelphia International Airport and LaGuardia Airport's Central Terminal are making a difference through their recycling efforts.
Recycled waste from 200+ restaurants and shops has added up to significant and meaningful savings in landfills, and oil, water and tree conservation. On an annual basis, nearly 1,000 tons of waster from these programs is recycled. Repurposed cardboard, glass, aluminum, plastic and paper have saved thousands of cubic feet of landfill space and have helped to conserve 4.3 million gallons of water, 147,800 gallons of oil and more than 15,000 trees. In addition, used fryer oil has been collected and converted into nearly 15,000 gallons of biodiesel fuel.
MarketPlace Development has been recognized for its recycling efforts by airport authorities. At Philadelphia International Airport, Assistant Operations Manager Bill Gardiner recently received an Award of Appreciation for his ongoing environmental stewardship at the airport. Deputy Director, Calvin Davenger, of the Division of Aviation, presented the award to Gardiner at Philadelphia International Airport's annual Earth Day celebration on April 20.
"Recycling and conservation efforts are an important part of our company and the retail programs we manage." said Paul McGinn, president of MarketPlace Development. "We're proud of our recycling efforts at PHL and LGA and we congratulate Bill Gardiner on his award."
