AeroMechanical Services Receives its First AFIRS 228 Activation STC

March 6, 2012

Calgary, Alberta – March 5, 2012 -- AeroMechanical Services Ltd., under its FLYHT™ brand name, has received its first activation Supplemental Type Certificate (“STC”) for the Automated Flight Information Reporting System ("AFIRSTM") 228 on a Bombardier CRJ-900 Series aircraft.

The activation STC was approved by Transport Canada Civil Aviation (“TCCA”) and issued under the authority of FLYHT’s Design Approval Organization. It allows for the full installation of AFIRS 228 on the aircraft type. FLYHT announced a contract with a North American CRJ operator, to which this STC applies, on June 21, 2011. Since then, the company received the provisions-only STC and installed the AFIRS 228 on the customer’s aircraft to conduct the necessary flight test.

“This activation STC is extremely important to FLYHT and its customer,” said Jeff Brunner, VP of Operations at FLYHT. “The customer will now be able to use the AFIRS 228 functionality to receive data from the aircraft in flight as well as the full benefits of the system. The operator will be the first fully-functional-AFIRS 228 customer.”

A STC constitutes approval to modify an aircraft design while retaining airworthiness certification and is necessary to permit retrofit installation of aeronautical products such as AFIRS. FLYHT has AFIRS 220 STCs for 30 aircraft types and has provisions-only AFIRS 228 STCs for the Boeing 777 and Hawker Beechcraft 750/800 XP.
