Silver Airways Announces New Service To/From Gainesville, FL.

Feb. 29, 2012

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – (February 29, 2012) – Silver Airways will expand its route network in the State of Florida this spring with the start of new daily scheduled service connecting Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) with Orlando (MCO) and Tampa (TPA). Gainesville-Orlando service will operate once daily in either direction, while two Silver Airways flights per-day will connect Gainesville and Tampa on weekdays, switching to once daily on weekends. New flights are on sale now at special introductory rates of just $49 each way, plus taxes and service charges, for departures beginning April 15, 2012. The launch of the new service will coincide with the opening of Silver Airways’ new maintenance facility in Gainesville. In January 2012, the airline announced its intention to relocate its maintenance department from its home base in Fort Lauderdale to a new, state-of-the-art 61,000 square-foot facility at Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV). The move will be completed by April 2012.

“This new service better connects the Gainesville community with the world,” said Darrell Richardson, CEO of Silver Airways. “Our codeshare agreement with United/Continental will enable travelers from Gainesville to connect seamlessly in Orlando and Tampa to non-stop flights covering much of the United States, Canada, Latin America and Europe. You’ll only need to check your bags once, and you won’t need multiple tickets either.”

Silver Airways will operate both 19-seat Beechcraft 1900D and 34-seat Saab 340Bplus aircraft on its new Gainesville service. The Saab 340Bplus represents the most advanced turboprop aircraft-type in service today with an active noise reduction system and class-leading fuel-economy combining with comfortable seating, large, easy-to-access overhead bins, and convenient on-board lavatories to provide an exceptional in-flight passenger experience. Silver Airways is currently in the process of upgrading its fleet to the Saab 340Bplus with six of the advanced aircraft-type to be in service along its Florida and Bahamas routes later this year.

Special introductory fares of $49 each way on the new Gainesville service are available on bookings made by March 5, 2012. For Silver Airways reservations, visit www.continental.com.
