PITTSBURGH, Nov. 29, 2011 – The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $15,000 to Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh and $15,000 to the Future of Flight Foundation in Mukilteo, Wash., for educational projects related to aerospace technology. Both the “SpacePlace” and Wind Tunnel Exhibit projects will invite students and other visitors to explore interactive exhibits that illustrate air and space science concepts.
Carnegie Science Center’s “SpacePlace” will combine new interactive exhibits with recent and refurbished core astronomy facilities at the Pittsburgh center to offer an integrated set of informal learning experiences that introduce participants to frontiers in space science and technology. It will introduce teachers and their students, families, and other visitors to fundamental space science concepts and current research and engage them in scientific inquiries and in using new technologies as research tools.
The Future of Flight Foundation (FoFF) will create the first-ever experiential wind tunnel environment to engage guests at the Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour in Mukilteo through informal learning experiences related to aerodynamic design and flight dynamics. The Wind Tunnel Exhibit will include interactive displays to enhance learning for children, families and teachers, and it will offer students an opportunity to conduct after-hours experiments at the Future of Flight.
