Luftfartsverket Air Navigation Services (LFV) selected Sensis Multistatic Dependent Surveillance (MDS) to improve the capacity of traffic flow on the ground at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.

EAST SYRACUSE , N.Y., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Sensis Corporation today announced that Luftfartsverket Air Navigation Services (LFV) has selected Sensis Multistatic Dependent Surveillance (MDS) to improve the capacity of traffic flow on the ground at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. Sensis MDS will be integrated into the airport's existing SMGCS, improving overall system reliability and safety by providing heightened surveillance accuracy and automated labeling of aircraft and vehicles in the gates and movement area.System performance will be met with the deployment of 16 remote units and in less than 12 months.

"LFV considered a number of solutions before deciding on Sensis," said Rolf Norman , manager, ATM Systems and Infrastructure Luftfartsverket AirNavigation Services. "Sensis' multilateration technology is being used operationally by major airports worldwide. And it has the high accuracy, reliability and scalability required to ensure our investment addresses our needs today and tomorrow."

Sensis MDS is being deployed to more than 50 sites across four continents. The transponder multilateration system uses low-maintenance, non-rotating sensors to detect and track the movement of aircraft or vehicles based on their transponder signals. With precision comparable to global positioning systems, a higher update rate than traditional airport surveillance radar, and consistent surveillance performance regardless of weather conditions, MDS provides significant benefits. Further, through its compatibility with Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B), Sensis MDS provides seamless transition to new technologies.

"Multilateration is a low-cost transitional technology that addresses our customers' current high accuracy surveillance needs leveraging existing aircraft transponders, and their potential future need for ADS-B," said Marc Viggiano , president, Sensis Air Traffic Systems division. "Additionally, it's scalable and adaptable enough to address surface, wide area, and enroute surveillance."
