Air Force Reserve Workers Spills Jet Fuel in Pittsburgh

March 7, 2007
About 400 to 500 gallons of JP-8 fuel gushed from a C-130 fuel system while a maintenance crew was working on the system.

Several hundred gallons of jet fuel spilled Monday at the Air Force Reserve's 911th Airlift Wing's Hangar 129 in Moon.

About 400 to 500 gallons of JP-8 fuel gushed from a C-130 fuel system while a maintenance crew was working on the system, according to base spokesman Shawn Walleck. The spill was contained to the hangar's concrete with absorbent pads and booms, Walleck said.

No one was injured and no property was damaged by the spill, Walleck said. The Allegheny County Airport Authority Fire Bureau helped 911th workers contain and clean up the spill.
