Redstone College, Denver Campus, Broomfield, Colorado, has become the first student chapter of the AMTSociety. "This is aviation history at its best," stated Tom Hendershot Executive Director. A plaque commemorating the occasion was presented to Director of Education Tim Guerrero and Director of Career Development Diane McDougall at the Denver IA Renewal on Wednesday, March 12, 2007.

Election of student officers was held April 18, 2007 at the school with the following results. Kevin Lindsey, president; Travis Peter and Andrew Prior, co-vice presidents; Patrick Montressor, secretary; and Peter Hyatt, treasurer; faculty advisors are Jeff Barbee, Dave Jasperson, and Bill Whichelo.

Michael Couling, Executive Director of Redstone College, Denver, was very pleased, and joined AMTSociety and also provided funding for his instructors to join. Initial membership of the Redstone-Denver chapter is sitting at 33 members, comprised of students, faculty, and administrative staff. In order to motivate new students and promote aviation, all new Redstone College aviation students will have their first year AMTSociety membership paid for by the school.

Jeff Barbee, Head Faculty Advisor for the student society, is honored to be a part of the organization. "This helps focus aviation mechanics to preserve safety and integrity," said Barbee.

Hendershot stated that this was the foundation for all future student chapters, and that it was really fun to work with so many dedicated people.

About Redstone

Redstone is made up of two campuses that share the foundation of providing students with skills needed to compete in the fields of Advanced Electronics Technology (Avionics), Airframe and Powerplant, Construction Management and Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R). Redstone College - Denver was founded in 1965 to offer Airframe and Powerplant training and expanded its curriculum in 1989 to include Advanced Electronics Technology (Avionics) training. In 2005 the curriculum was extended further to include Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R). Redstone College - Los Angeles has a history that can be traced back to 1936. For over 60 years, the school has provided training to the aviation industry. Both aviation programs are certified and developed by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Redstone's Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) program has instructors with industry expertise, allowing students to build connections to help them get ahead. The A&P program at Redstone is fully certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in accordance with 14CFR Part 147. Graduates will be ready to take the FAA certification exam in as little as 18 months and be well-prepared to find an entry-level position in the airframe and powerplant industry. Redstone's avionics courses help students get entry-level positions in the aviation industry and also help prepare them to take the FCC certification exam in under 18 months.
