Precision Aircraft Plans Upgrade, Expansion
So Cal's new operation would help the airport attract more aircraft-maintenance customers by offering more services at one site.

Apr. 27 -- So Cal Precision Aircraft Inc., an aircraft-maintenance company based at San Bernardino International Airport, plans to start an engine repair and upgrade shop, adding about 20 employees to its payrolls.
The company, which performs routine inspections and maintenance on airplanes, employs about 125 people in San Bernardino. So Cal Precision moved to the airport about a year ago from the Mojave East Kern Airport and subleases hangars from SBD Aircraft Services LLC, which rents the hangars from the airport.
Greg Albert, So Cal's president, said the company hopes to have the shop, which would be able to work on four aircraft engines simultaneously, in operation by June.
He said the operation could be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in two weeks.
Scot Spencer, general manager of SBD Aircraft Services, said he has been in negotiations with So Cal Precision for several months.
With the engine shop up and running, the airport will have all of the main aircraft-maintenance services, Spencer said.
Earlier this month, SBD Aircraft signed a lease with Onancock, Va.-based Basis Technologies, a small aircraft-interior conversion company. AeroPro, an aircraft painter, has been at the airport for nearly two years.
Michael Burrows, the airport's assistant director, said So Cal's new operation would help the airport attract more aircraft-maintenance customers by offering more services at one site.
