AirTran Airways, Inc., announced that the airline set a record for the number of new hires starting to work for the airline on a single day, many new hires are mechanics.

ORLANDO, Fla., April 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, Inc., a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., (NYSE: AAI), today announced that the airline set a record for the number of new hires starting to work for the airline on a single day. In the orientation class started at 8 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2007, at the airline's Atlanta training center, 152 Crew Members reported to work on their first day to begin the customary company orientation prior to embarking on their job-specific training.

The class beginning Monday, April 30, 2007, consists of mechanics, reservations agents, customer service agents, ramp agents, crew planners and schedulers and various other functions; and they represent several cities across AirTran Airways' system - including Atlanta, Ga., Boston, Mass., Milwaukee, Wis., Orlando, Fla., Philadelphia, Penn., and St. Louis, Mo. All new hires with AirTran Airways, regardless of their work locations, complete their initial training in the company's Atlanta training center.

Since that announcement, the airline has already created 800 new jobs - well on its way to the goal of 2,500 new jobs. With the additional 152 new hires starting today, the airline's total employment now surpasses 8,537 Crew Members.
