DALLAS --

An American Airlines flight returned minutes after it took off for Atlanta on Friday night when a smoky haze appeared in the cabin.

Fire trucks greeted the 140 passengers on Flight 848 when the plane landed at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport about 15 minutes after takeoff. There was no fire on board and nothing was mechanically wrong with the plane, American spokesman Tim Wagner said. No injuries were reported.

The airline was still determining what caused the smoke, Wagner said. The presence of fire trucks is standard, he said.

The flight was canceled because there was no aircraft to replace the plane.
