VEM Paints Brazil's First A3340-500 to be Operated by TAM

Rio de Janeiro, November 19, 2007 – Among the diverse capabilities of VEM Maintenance & Engineering, in a broad spectrum of aircraft maintenance areas (MRO - Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul), are the large projects for painting aircraft. The A340 project of TAM Linhas Aéreas is another project that has been successfully completed. The first Airbus A340-500 aircraft to fly in Brazil is being delivered today, after painting the fuselage and the logo of the new operator, at VEM’s hangar in Rio de Janeiro – the largest in Latin America.

Thanks to VEM’s high level of technical quality, which is recognized throughout the domestic and international market, and its experience of over 80 years in performing maintenance on large aircraft, VEM has also participated in several operational processes in conjunction with TAM’s technical team. The plane’s interior had the placards and carpets changed, in line with the standards for the fleet of the new operator.

Since 2004, when it received its first certification for maintenance on the A300-200, from the FAA (United States), VEM decided to invest heavily in its capability to serve the Airbus fleet and, currently, is certified for the A310 and A300-600 models, also by the FAA. The investment in training and capability, for the purpose of increasing its business portfolio and offering more solutions to its clients, does not end there. EASA certification (European Union) for the A310 is expected for January 2008.

VEM is a leader in Latin America and the Southern Hemisphere in MRO services and is ranked 6th in the world. The company is able to service the entire Boeing fleet (B727, B737, B747, B757, B767, DC10, MD-11), Embraer’s EMB 120 and ERJ 145, and Fokker’s F-100 and F-50, as well as Airbus models A300-200, A300-600, and A310. Its Capability List has over 17,000 items and an aeronautical shops complex that includes repair and overhaul of landing gear, engines and APUs, avionics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and others. All of this technical capability makes VEM an aeronautical maintenance world reference in the concept "maintenance nose-to-tail". It is by uniting technical competence with its new philosophy of excellence for Client Services that VEM has been increasingly establishing its position in this market.
