Honeywell today announced an XM Weather system update for its KMD 550/850 general aviation multifunction display, available at no charge with the purchase of a database update.

OSHKOSH, Wis., July 28, 2008 -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) today announced an XM Weather system update for its KMD 550/850 general aviation multifunction display, available at no charge with the purchase of a database update.

“Bendix/King KMD 550/850 operators and owners of KMD 550/850 and KDR 610 receivers can now update their system at no cost to add additional XM Weather products,” said Dan Barks, Director, General Aviation Avionics. “Using the KDR610 digital receiver, the XM Weather feed provides the KMD 550/850 cockpit with critical information about severe weather storms and tracking, lightening, winds, freezing levels, precipitation and other potentially hazardous conditions. The update arms pilots with the weather information they need – as it develops.”

Using the Bendix/King KDR 610 as the digital receiver and with the XM Weather subscription, operators currently display high resolution Doppler radar NEXRAD, AIRMETS, METARs, TAFs and SIGMETS weather products.

With the KMD 550/850 XM Weather update, operators can also display temporary flight restrictions, lightning, severe weather storm track, winds aloft at altitude, freezing levels, precipitation type at surface, and translated METAR weather reports.

The Bendix/King KMD 550/850, an integrated hazard avoidance system (IHAS), provides situational awareness, ease of operation and safety for general aviation operators.

As both a display and a controller for the latest moving map technology, weather avoidance, traffic advisories and terrain warning, the KMD 550/850 also has a unique processor architecture that allows operators to add processing power as they add new functionality.

Standard features include a full-color, 5-inch diagonal, active matrix liquid crystal display with joystick control, extensive overlay capability, datalink capability, and NTSC compatible video input. The KMD 850 system offers general aviation pilots all of the features of the KMD 550, with an additional built-in interface for weather radar.
