Layoffs at Cirrus

105 people laid off on Tuesday.

DULUTH, MN - More layoffs for Duluth-based plane manufacturer Cirrus Design Corp.

The company laid off 105 people Tuesday — 75 at its Duluth plant, 30 at its plant in Grand Forks, ND.

The latest cuts amount to about 9 percent of Cirrus' workforce.

Company president and chief operating officer Brent Wouter says the workforce now stands at "just above 1,100."

He says the cuts are part of a long-term effort to increase efficiencies at the two plants in the face of lowering demand worldwide for Cirrus' aircraft.

In early September, Cirrus laid off about 7 percent of its workforce — 71 employees in Duluth and 29 in Grand Forks.
