HAMBURG, GERMANY -- At the beginning of the new year, Lufthansa Technik AG reorganized its international maintenance business, and has bundled it since as Lufthansa Technik Maintenance International (LTMI). This new 100-percent subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik has a workforce of approximately 1000 employees.

LTMI's home base is at Frankfurt Airport, where it utilizes the infrastructure of the former Lufthansa Technik subsidiary Condor/Cargo Technik (CCT) that constitutes the basis for the new company. In addition, LTMI has taken over those departments of Lufthansa Technik that were previously responsible for handling international airlines. In the future, LTMI will look after all the customers of both areas.

"In founding LTMI we are responding to the wishes of numerous customers outside Lufthansa for an organization that is exclusively dedicated to their needs," says Alexander Heilmann, CEO of LTMI. "The decision to have Lufthansa Technik Maintenance International offer maintenance services for international customers outside Lufthansa Passage offers us the opportunity for further growth."

In addition to aircraft maintenance for international customers, LTMI is also responsible for Technical Operations Management (TOM) which was introduced in the fall of 2008. Part of its Total Technical Support, (TTS), TOM enables Lufthansa Technik Maintenance International to take over the complete maintenance organization for an airline fleet across its entire station network. This includes deploying a fleet manager at the customer's location to serve as central contact and coordinator. The fleet manager is responsible to the customer for all the necessary services that ensure troublefree everyday technical operations. The Internet-based customer platform manage/m has also been given a new home within LTMI. The web-based management of technical operations within the manage/m IT landscape enables customers to retain complete control around the clock of all the maintenance services purchased from Lufthansa Technik.

In the long term, LTMI will carry out line maintenance for all the types of aircraft that are currently maintained by Lufthansa Technik's Line Maintenance division. The company operates under the same aviation authority approvals as Lufthansa Technik and the former Condor/Cargo Technik.

Initially the portfolio will comprise ground maintenance for the aircraft types Boeing 757 and 767 and MD-11, plus the modern long-haul aircraft in the Airbus A330 and A340 range. Other aircraft types, such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 families, will be added by degrees, and LTMI will continue to handle maintenance for Lufthansa Cargo's MD-11 freighters.
