Air New Zealand Says Airbus Comments Don’t Pre-Judge Crash

CEO says information should not be taken as a pre-judgment of the official investigations.

Air New Zealand Ltd. said comments from Airbus SAS on maintenance and flight test requirements of A320 aircraft don’t pre-judge the cause of the crash that sent one of its airliners into the Mediterranean Sea in November.

The aircraft, operated by XL Airways of Germany, crashed at the end of a 90-minute test flight from Perpignan in southern France on Nov. 27, killing seven people. French investigators are continuing to analyze the flight recorders.

Airbus yesterday published a safety bulletin reminding airlines of maintenance and flight check requirements for the A320 following the French crash, the Auckland-based airline said in a statement. Airbus said care should be taken that aerodynamic data sensors are protected during painting and that low-speed tests must be performed at a safe altitude, the Dominion Post newspaper reported.
