Curtiss-Wright Controls Awarded Programs for Helicopter Flight Controls
Contract to provide flight control transducers for the Sikorsky UH-60M Upgrade BLACK HAWK' and CH-53K helicopters.
CHARLOTTE, NC - April 21, 2009 - Curtiss-Wright Controls Inc., announced today it has been selected by Claverham Ltd (A Hamilton Sundstrand Flight Systems business unit) to provide multi-channel linear variable displacement transducers (LVDTs) for the fly-by-wire (FBW) systems controlling the main rotor and tail rotor on the Sikorsky UH-60M Upgrade and CH-53K helicopters. These two programs have a potential contract value in excess of $20 million over a 15-year period with shipments expected to begin in 2009.
"Curtiss-Wright Controls is proud to be selected to supply our high integrity transducers for these Sikorsky helicopter programs," said David Adams, Co-Chief Operating Officer of Curtiss-Wright Corporation. "These flight control LVDTs are critical components in helicopter flight control systems, demonstrating our continued leadership in the design of aerospace sensors and systems."
The LVDTs are special pressure sealed linear displacement transducers that are embedded in the Primary Flight Control Actuators manufactured by Claverham Ltd. The transducers provide electrical signals that are proportional to the position of the hydraulic actuator rod. The actuators form part of the "fly-by-wire" control system, which changes the rotor pitch angles on the main and tail rotors in response to the pilot's commands during flight.
Curtiss-Wright Controls is a leading supplier of linear displacement transducers, rotary displacement transducers and solenoids for fixed and rotary wing commercial and defense aircraft. The company will supply these products from its Christchurch, UK, operation.
