Hardman WS 8020 RC Qualified to Aerospace SAE Industry Specification AMS 8802

SOUTH BEND, IN -- Royal Adhesives and Sealants LLC announces that its Hardman WS 8020 RC rapid cure manganese dioxide cured polysulfide aircraft sealant has been fully qualified to SAE International's aerospace material (AMS) 8802 Class B aircraft fuel tank sealant specification.

Hardman aircraft sealants are manufactured at Royal Adhesives and Sealants Wilmington, CA facility, which has been certified to the AS 9100, ISO 9001/2000 and AS7200/1 NADCAP quality systems requirements. Products are sold to aerospace and defense customers that require qualified sealants for demanding fuel tank and environmental sealing applications.

"This product qualification is a significant achievement for the company and underscores our efforts to listen to customers' requirements for improving quality and reducing costs through sealants that cure 50 percent more rapidly than the current generation sealants," says Ted Clark, Chief Executive Officer of Royal. "This allows for faster aircraft assembly and reduces the time for repair and maintenance which will reduce our customers' overall costs."

AMS 8802 qualified aircraft sealants are used on virtually all U.S. manufactured military aircraft. In addition to its rapid cure, WS 8020 RC is resistant to aviation gasoline and jet fuel, as well as resistance to chemicals and petroleum products common to the aircraft industry. It offers flexibility and bond strength to most metal substrates like aluminum, stainless steel, steel, advanced composites, and many coatings under extremes of temperature, weathering and stress.

Hardman WS 8020 RC is a rapid cure aircraft sealant qualified to Class B of the AMS 8802 sealant specifications. WS 8020 RC Class B-2 has a work life of two hours, but cures to 30 shore A in 12 hours, a reduction of 12 hours over standard AMS 8802 qualified sealants which have a cure rate of 24 hours.

"The qualification of Hardman WS 8020 RC aircraft sealant to AMS 8802 will benefit all military aircraft manufacturers, as well as military maintenance operations," says Jeff Swindells, Product Manager Aerospace Sealants. "In addition WS 8020 RC is either qualified or under qualification at a number of business jet manufacturers in the U.S. and Europe."
