El Cajon's Gillespie Field to host Vintage Aircraft Fly-In and Classic Car Show.

Eight decades ago, the silver biplane crashed in a mountainous part of southern Oregon. This weekend, the now-restored, historic Boeing 40C mail plane – one of the first Boeing-manufactured planes to carry passengers and cargo – will be among the 60 aircraft on display at El Cajon's Gillespie Field.

"These are not planes you find everywhere," said Roger Griffiths, the airport manager at Gillespie. "They have to have some historical significance."

The free Vintage Aircraft Fly-In and Classic Car Show, to be held Saturday and Sunday, will show off the planes, classic automobiles such as the Model A and Model T Fords, antique tractors, and a new parking area for planes.
