New Nondestructive Testing Courses Begin in Fall

Aug. 6, 2009
The week-long courses will be instructed by John Saunders at Wichita Area Technical College’s Comotara Center campus.

The official opening of Wichita’s new National Center for Aviation Training (NCAT) is still several months away, but NCAT will begin offering nondestructive testing (NDT) courses this fall. Through a cooperative effort between Wichita State University’s National Institute for Aviation Research and Wichita Area Technical College (WATC), NCAT will offer a series of eleven NDT courses. The week-long courses will be instructed by John Saunders at WATC’s Comotara Center campus. Students can work their way toward an Intro to NDT or Advanced NDT Certificate of Completion, or take select individual courses as needed.

Intro to NDT - Certificate of Completion

Penetrant Inspection, NDT100, Sept. 14-17, M-U

Magnetic Particle, NDT101, Sept. 21-25, M-F

Materials and Processes, NDT104, Sept. 28-Oct. 2, M-F

Radiography I, NDT102, Nov. 9-13, M-F

Radiography II, NDT103, Nov. 16-20, M-F

Advanced NDT - Certificate of Completion

Eddy Current I, NDT110, Oct. 5-9, M-F

Eddy Current II, NDT111, Oct. 19-23, M-F

Ultrasonic I, NDT112, Oct. 26-30, M-F

Ultrasonic II, NDT113, Nov. 2-6, M-F

Visual Inspection, NDT114, Nov. 30-Dec. 4, M-F

Bond Testing, NDT116, Dec. 7-11, M-F

NCAT's NDT program will produce technicians who understand the role of NDT in the aerospace industry and who have mastered coursework from the American Society for Nondestructive Testing Level I and II certification. The technical certificate program adds hands-on experience in both conventional and composite aerospace assembly methods which will allow students to apply NDT techniques to the aviation industry.
