Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Draft Advisory Circular (AC) 150J5220-XX, Airport Foreign Object Debris/Damage (FOD) Detection Equipment, is being circulated to interested industry associations to obtain comments and recommendations of actions to be taken.

This advisory circular (AC) provides information that airports can use to procure and operate foreign object debris/damage (FOD) detection equipment. The AC contains performance specifications for systems and equipment that detect foreign objects on airports. Four types of detection systems are discussed, including: stationary radar; stationary electro-optic; hybrid radar and electro-optic; and mobile radar.

Please review this draft and submit comments as appropriate. Additionally, please provide justification for all comments regarding oppositions and recommended modifications. The final document may be revised as a result of comments received and further review by the Office of Airport Safety and Standards.

Comments must be received by the close of business on Friday, September 4, 2009.
