FAA Certifies Lycoming IO-390-A3A6 Engine and Second Lycoming Echelon STC
The STC covers replacing the original IO-360 Lycoming engine in the Mooney M20E, M20F and M20J with a new or remanufactured IO-390-A3A6 engine.
Williamsport, PA – November 16, 2009 – Lycoming Engines, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, recently received Federal Aviation Administration type and production certification for its IO-390-A3A6 engine, quickly followed by an FAA supplemental type certificate (STC), the second STC earned as part of Lycoming’s Echelon STC program.
The IO-390-A3A6 provides more horsepower as well as improved climb and cruise performance, while maintaining the same footprint as the IO-360 engine. The STC covers replacing the original IO-360 Lycoming engine in the Mooney M20E, M20F and M20J with a new or remanufactured IO-390-A3A6 engine.
Like the first Echelon STC developed for the Cessna 177 RG Cardinal, this STC improves performance and adds value to the airframe.
“Lycoming’s new-engine certification and Echelon STC programs are a key way we show our commitment to legacy aircraft,” says Dennis Racine, Lycoming director of marketing and program management. “Mooney owners now enjoy another option when it is time for an overhaul.”
The STC includes either a new or rebuilt IO-390-A3A6, Slick Start System and required documentation. In addition, Hartzell has certified both two-blade and three-blade propellers for the STC. It will be offered exclusively through Lycoming Authorized Service Centers. For information on the closest Lycoming Authorized Service Center, call 800-258-3279 and ask for Michele Demarest, Authorized Service Center Administrator or send email to ascadministrator@lycoming.textron.com.
Lycoming will continue to certify different versions of the IO-390 to fit customer requirements.
