Five Deserving San Diego Region Students Selected to Receive $500 Scholarships from the San Diego Air & Space Museum & Ford Motor Company Fund

Nov. 25, 2009
As part of the annual “Green Skills for Life” family day event, five outstanding winners will each receive a $500 scholarship from the Ford Motor Company Fund.

San Diego, CA – November 25, 2009 – This year as part of the annual “Green Skills for Life” family day event, the San Diego Air & Space Museum (SDASM) and Ford Motor Company Fund asked San Diego County students to present a green idea they and their friends could do by using the engaging medium of online video. All eighteen of the videos received were of such high quality it made it a difficult task for the judges to pick, but in the end they selected five outstanding winners who will each receive a $500 scholarship from the Ford Motor Company Fund.

Congratulations to the following winners:

Lana Lakdawala, 6, from Rancho Santa Fe, demonstrated all the simple green things she does around the house which proves that if a 6 year old knows and can do these simple things, then so can we.

Ayla Polk, 8, from San Diego, knows that all the wrapping paper used is wasteful and informed us of the benefits of replacing paper with reusable cloth wrapping.

Carly Dunn, 13, from San Diego, noticed trash on the beach and knows that it can all end up in the oceans. So she suggested a beach cleanup day to help green our earth.

Stephanie Lorenz, 16, from Spring Valley, conserves water by only turning the shower on to get wet and to rinse off the soap and shampoo.

Mitchell Winkie, 16, from El Cajon, suggests that we all become vegetarian for at least one day of the week to save the earth’s resources.
