Absolute Fire Solutions (AFS) is introducing expanded versions of its FASTTrack event logging hardware platform and its PCTrac software at Heli-Expo 2010. Originally developed to log heli-bucketing data, FASTTrack has been expanded to include the capability to log and communicate belly tank data, fixed-wing tanker data, as well as drip torch and health and usage monitoring (HUMS) data. The company will showcase FASTTrack and its new capabilities — along with live FAST Bucket water drop displays — at Static Exhibit 19.

The FASTTrack system is unique, because it enables operators to either store and download data, or integrate data collection with near real-time communications using an existing SATCOM system. “Using the existing AFF (Automatic Flight Following) or SATCOM platforms saves operators both time and money as they move to meet fire agency requests for more fire suppression data – and this was a critical element in our development process,” said Steve Matthews, president of AFS. “We wanted every operator to be able to control data costs and match the costs of data transfer to the requirements of their fire agency or client, but without costly retrofits to reach the new standards that will be required.”

Data from operational systems such as water buckets, belly tanks, and other installed utility systems is collected by the FASTTrack system and is transmitted to the AFF data center via the Iridium satellite network. The AFS website and software enable operators to pick up or drop off information regarding water volume, weight, drop pattern, and retardant mix ratios, or the data may simply be forwarded to the appropriate agency. For operators with unique utility applications, such as power line washing, spraying, or seeding, the software allows them to give customers detailed reporting, either in near real time or post-application.

“Fire agencies worldwide are beginning to request accurate fill and drop data to improve their own capabilities and efficiencies,” Matthews said. “FASTTrack is the first product available to operators that can provide this data across the wide spectrum of buckets and tanks currently in use.”
