ORLANDO, Fla., Mar. 10, 2010 – Aircraft repair center Avocet Aircraft Services announced the groundbreaking and start of construction for its new hangar at Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB). The new facilities enable the company to provide a wide range of services for its international commercial customers.

Avocet provides aviation repair, maintenance and aircraft tear-down services for a variety of commercial customers. The company has been in the aviation maintenance business for more than 20 years.

The new facility is a 44,000 square foot hangar, big enough to service large commercial aircraft, along with 4,000 square foot of shop area and more than 5,300 square feet of office space. The facility is scheduled be completed in January, 2011. Avocet has agreed with Orlando Sanford International Airport on a 20-year term lease with four five-year options, effectively providing Avocet with a 40-year agreement.

Last year, Avocet relocated from Opa-Locka Airport in Miami-Dade County, Fla. to Orlando Sanford International. Avocet decided to make the move due to the opportunity to enter into a long-term relationship with SFB.

“Avocet’s new facilities at SFB position us to expand our capabilities and provide an even broader array of high quality, efficient maintenance services to commercial aircraft operators. We will offer specialized maintenance for airlines, lessors and owners which can be accomplished without an expensive or extended visit to a major MRO, providing a sensible and cost-effective solution,” said Maria Arellano, general manager. ”We’re excited about our partnership with Orlando Sanford International Airport and the many opportunities that will arise from our wonderful new location.”

According to Larry Dale, president and CEO of Orlando Sanford International Airport, ”The construction of Avocet’s new hangar facility is a significant step forward for the Airport’s continued development. We welcome the opportunities for service and employment afforded by Avocet’s operation and look forward to a long and successful relationship.”
