EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Now Features Limited Number of Improved Camping Spots for 2010

March 26, 2010
For 2010, more than 250 campsites have been improved with electricity and fresh-water hookups. They will be available at $42 per day, compared to the regular campsite price of $22/day.

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. - (March 25, 2010) - Campers who enjoy a few more amenities as part of their camping experience will now have that opportunity during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2010, as The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration is offering a limited number of improved campsites at its drive-in Camp Scholler facility.

The 58th annual edition of EAA's fly-in convention will be held July 26-August 1 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.

For 2010, more than 250 campsites have been improved with electricity and fresh-water hookups. They will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for AirVenture attendees beginning with the campground's traditional opening day in late June, one month before the fly-in's first day.

"This is a new concept for camping at EAA AirVenture, and meets the requests we've had from some EAA members who have camped at Oshkosh through the years," said Tom Poberezny, EAA chairman/president. "We wanted to make these facilities available to those who want them, while retaining the traditional camping culture in areas where that is preferred. The success of this initial offering will help decide whether additional growth for such hookups is needed in future years."

The campsites with the new hookups will be available at $42 per day, compared to the regular campsite price of $22/day, to cover the higher costs of those campsite amenities.

Due to the limited number of improved sites, they are only being offered based on a stay through the end of end of AirVenture, with no refund for unused days. The improved campsites will only be offered upon arrival at Camp Scholler, and are not available through EAA's online admission and camping purchase site at www.airventure.org. Those who have already purchased camping credentials for 2010 can upgrade to the improved sites if any are available simply by paying the price difference when they arrive at Oshkosh.

The upgraded campsites are part of EAA AirVenture's multi-year site improvement projects, which includes many new and improved amenities for EAA members and visitors on the grounds. In 2009, those improvements included new walkways, additional exhibit space, restricted vehicle areas, and more convenient tram routes. Additional improvements will be announced and detailed at the AirVenture website.
