Charlotte, North Carolina – April 23, 2010– A new third parallel runway, 18R/36L was recently opened at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), dramatically improving business aviation access to Charlotte, NC and the surrounding area. The new runway alleviates the need to fly into surrounding area airports when Charlotte is the ultimate destination. The latest addition to the airport will also improve access to great FBO service from Wilson Air Center which recently completed a 10,000-square-foot renovation of their facilities just in time for the new runway opening.
Business and corporate aircraft have long known about the convenience and operational benefit of CLT and now have even more reason to make CLT their destination airport. This is the airport’s fourth runway and third parallel runway. The addition of the new 9,000 foot long runway will permit triple independent instrument landings. The primary purpose of the runway will be for flight arrivals.
Already 8th nationwide in operations, this significant expansion positions CLT to become the airport of choice for the Charlotte Metropolitan Area. The new runway combined with the existing runways, provides enhanced safety and timely landing and departures.
In anticipation of the new runway opening and increased usage of CLT, Wilson Air Center, has completed renovations just in time to complement the new runway and increased airport capabilities. In addition to the newly completed upgrade, Wilson Air Center-Charlotte has recently added over 100,000 square feet of additional office and hangar space. To further complement the modern FBO campus, an additional 3.5 acres of ramp space is now operated under Wilson management and has both office and hangar space available for lease.
