ACT - Advanced Composites Training a division of Renaissance Aeronautics Associates Inc. of London, Ontario Canada and DFJ - Dassault FalconJet of Hackensack, NJ USA are pleased to announce the success of their cooperative efforts in delivering a unique NDI Methods for Composites and Bonded Structures course.

In 2009 Advanced Composites Training and Dassault FalconJet partnered to deliver a Composite Airframe NDI Refresher course unlike any other available to industry. This new NDI Methods for Composites and Bonded Structures course was instructed at the facilities of the Sandia Labs and the Federal Aviation Administration NDI Validation Center (AANC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA several times. This new course was well attended and very well received, in other words very successful.

Moving forward in 2010 in our efforts to foster technician proficiency, this course now includes current technologies covering various NDI methods as applied to composites specific structures. Familiarization with new composite materials technologies and NDI applications such as UT, Thermography and Shearography are demonstrated.

Proficiency of NDI personnel is critical and every effort must be made toward continuous improvement in the understanding of aircraft composite structures. The ACT and DFJ NDI Methods for Composites and Bonded Structures course is a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises utilizing real aircraft as test subjects. The opportunity to practice on actual aircraft and full scale aircraft parts is extremely rare. Hands-on training instructed at a general aviation facility is typically limited to desk top and classroom instruction. This is not reality and far less effective than working with actual aircraft in a real world environment. The AANC operated by Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, N.M. for the FAA, was specifically designed for this type of collaborative project and is therefore quite unique. The ACT and DFJ experience at the FAA Airworthiness Assurance NDI Validation Center with its incredible mix of aircraft and laboratory assets and the response from attendees, has convinced us that this is the best course and location available.

This is an advanced NDI technician program however registration is open to anyone. Mechanics, maintenance management, engineers, etc. that would benefit from the Composites Awareness portion of the course are welcome to attend. FAA – Federal Aviation Administration IA Renewal Credit will be available for first 2½ days of Composites Awareness or the full 5 day NDI course.
