MILWAUKEE, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines has been awarded a five-year contract to transport express, first class and priority mail for the U.S. Postal Service.

The new agreement includes stringent on-time delivery requirements and performance standards, originally implemented by the Postal Service three years ago. Tracking provisions ensure that mail is accounted for while in the air transportation system. Each piece of mail is scanned a minimum of two times throughout the process, resulting in consistently high levels of service to both the Postal Service and its customers.

"This contract renewal recognizes our track record of providing safe, on-time delivery of the mail," said Scott R. Dickson, Midwest Airlines senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "We're very proud to be a preferred carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and look forward to continuing our mutually beneficial partnership." He added that Midwest Airlines has been carrying mail for the Postal Service since 1985, shortly after the airline took to the skies.

Six other domestic airlines were also awarded contracts.

Midwest Airlines features jet service throughout the United States. Skyway Airlines, Inc. -- its wholly owned subsidiary -- operates as Midwest Connect, which offers connections to Midwest Airlines as well as point-to-point service between select markets on regional jet and turboprop aircraft. Together, the airlines offer service to 47 cities. More information is available at midwestairlines.com.
