SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. and PARIS – Oct. 17 – Axway, Inc. today announced the release of Axway Synchrony for Aviation, the first comprehensive collaborative business solution to allow the aerospace industry to electronically guard against counterfeit aircraft parts. The U.S. Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) estimates that each year, two percent of the 26 million parts installed on airplanes are counterfeit — the total 520,000 substandard parts create a risk to the safety of the aircrafts. To address this growing problem, Synchrony for Aviation allows the aerospace industry to increase air safety and comply with government regulations by electronically certifying and tracking aircraft parts within the supply chain.
The international aviation authorities, including the FAA, Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA), European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) mandate that when an airplane part changes custody that an authorized release certificate (ARC) must accompany that part. This process has become necessary as a result of the rise of counterfeit parts, which are of a lower quality and create a risk to the safety of the aircraft. However, manual certification of the parts is easily forged, time-consuming to store, track and verify, and subject to human error. Synchrony for Aviation automates these paper-based processes to act as an anti-counterfeiting measure, enhance operational efficiencies and facilitate the regulatory audit process.

Axway is a member of the U.S. ATA eBusiness Program, which worked closely with the international aviation authorities to create standards for the electronic ARC forms. The current mandated forms include the FAA's 8130-3, TCCA's 24-0078, EASA's Form One and CASA's Form One 917.
