The Total Service Solutions unit of PPG Aerospace has been awarded a three-year contract by Delta Air Lines to provide chemical management services at Delta's Atlanta maintenance base and line stations.

GLENDALE, Calif., Nov. 3, 2006 – The Total Service Solutions unit of PPG Aerospace has been awarded a three-year contract by Delta Air Lines to provide chemical management services at Delta's Atlanta maintenance base and line stations, PPG Aerospace officials announced.

Under terms of the contract, PPG Total Service Solutions will provide material purchasing and vendor management as well as on-site logistics services, including point-of-use stocking and inventory management and shelf-life management, according to Mike Beers, aerospace industry manager for PPG Total Service Solutions.

The custom-designed program encompasses product support at Delta's 169 global locations with more than 1,450 chemical products.

"PPG Aerospace has enjoyed a close relationship with Delta Air Lines for many years as a supplier of coatings, transparencies and sealants," Beers said. “This new business extends that relationship. By managing Delta's chemicals through their life cycle, we are enabling it to focus on its core competencies."

PPG's application support center in Kennesaw, Ga., will provide primary support to Delta through its Atlanta maintenance base.

PPG Total Service Solutions provides a modular approach for customized chemical management, allowing for turnkey outsourcing of chemical and fluid management, process management and logistics.

Beers comments, "This flexible approach allows for PPG Total Service Solutions to concentrate in the areas where added value and savings can be achieved against the total cost of ownership for Delta and other airlines. Our core competency is chemicals. Airlines are looking for partners to manage their non-core businesses. We are able to combine our unmatched expertise as a chemicals manufacturer and supplier for the aerospace industry with our global application support center network to offer large-scale efficiencies to provide airlines reduced costs."

Chemical management services continue to be a fast growing group at PPG Aerospace.

"Customers are concerned about the costs involved in the management of shelf-life-sensitive products. Material Safety Data Sheet and documentation requirements, environmental reporting and compliance, and overall corporate risk associated with chemical use, storage, management and waste are areas where PPG has identified potential savings in the chemicals life-cycle," Beers said.

PPG Aerospace is the aerospace products and services business of PPG Industries. PPG Aerospace – Transparencies is the world’s largest supplier of aircraft windshields, windows and canopies.
