EVENDALE, OHIO - July 8, 2010 - John Gough has been named Leader of GE Aviation's OnPoint Fuel and Carbon Solutions. In this role, Gough will be responsible for developing this new program that is focused on providing recommendations to airlines to help them save fuel and measure and quantify their carbon emissions.

GE Aviation's OnPoint Fuel and Carbon Solutions uses proprietary software and fuel consulting expertise to help airlines identify and track operations improvements that could reduce the airlines' fuel spend by up to six percent. The program includes an operational evaluation in which GE collects data on an airlines' current fuel and carbon reduction programs. Then GE along with the customer analyzes the data to isolate and prioritize potential improvement for a customized solution for the airline. Finally, the team works with the airline to implement the changes and measure and validate the savings.

Fuel typically accounts for about 30 percent of an airline's expenses. With volatility in fuel prices over the last few years, airlines are looking for ways to manage this major portion of their cost base more effectively. GE has continued to enhance capabilities in fuel management solutions and acquired BMB Fuel Inc., a fuel consulting service company, earlier this year.

Gough has been with GE for six years and has led the Flight Operations team for five years. He will remain leader of the Flight Operations team and integrate the team's efforts into the OnPoint Fuel and Carbon Solutions organization.

Prior to joining GE, Gough was a certificate Boeing 737 pilot and has more than 14,000 hours of commercial flight operations with Southwest Airlines where he achieved the rank of Captain. He received a bachelor's degree in political science from the United States Air Force Academy, a master's degree in industrial engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and an MBA from Webster University.
