Pratt & Whitney EcoPower® Engine Wash Agreement Renewed by JetBlue Airways to Reduce Emissions and Save Fuel
& Whitney has signed an agreement for a two-year extension with JetBlue Airways for its EcoPower engine washes on the airline's fleet of V2500 and CF34 engines.
FARNBOROUGH, England, July 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FARNBOROUGH AIR SHOW -- Pratt & Whitney has signed an agreement for a two-year extension with JetBlue Airways for its EcoPower engine washes on the airline's fleet of V2500 and CF34 engines. JetBlue started washes last year at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York, Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and at Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Florida with options to expand the service to 13 additional airport locations. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.
"We estimate that to date we have saved approximately 4 million pounds of fuel and eliminated more than 5,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions using Pratt & Whitney's EcoPower engine wash service," said Dave Ramage, JetBlue's vice president of technical operations. "It has helped us run a more efficient and cost effective operation while continuing our commitment to reduce our environmental footprint."
"We are proud to extend our EcoPower engine wash service agreement with JetBlue," said Joanne Hastings, director, Pratt & Whitney Line Maintenance Services. "The results prove that customer value has been achieved through improved time on wing, decreased fuel burn, and CO2 emissions."
New York-based JetBlue Airways has created a new airline category based on value, service and style. JetBlue currently serves 61 cities with more than 650 daily flights with focus cities in Boston, Fort Lauderdale, L.A./Long Beach, New York and Orlando. In November, JetBlue will expand its service to include Bradley International Airport located in Pratt & Whitney headquarters' state of Connecticut.
Pratt & Whitney's patented EcoPower engine wash system reduces fuel burn by as much as 1.2 percent, eliminating three pounds of carbon dioxide emissions for every pound of fuel saved, while also decreasing engine gas temperature thus increasing the amount of time an engine can stay on wing.
