Brazil's ANAC Certifies AFS Inlet Barrier Filter for AgustaWestland A119/AW119 Ke Helicopters

Nov. 2, 2010
AFS has received STC approval from Brazil's National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) for an Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system for the AgustaWestland A119/AW119 Ke helicopters.

St. Louis, MO, Nov. 1, 2010 - Aerospace Filtration Systems, Inc. (AFS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Donaldson Company, Inc. (NYSE:DCI) and a division of the Aerospace & Defense group, has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval from Brazil's National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) for an Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system for the AgustaWestland A119/AW119 Ke helicopters.

A welcome equipment addition to these versatile aircraft, the IBF helps prevent engine damage in all environments. South American A119/AW119 Ke operators now have the opportunity to realize the proven operating cost reductions and increased operational capabilities an IBF offers.

Donaldson Inlet Barrier Filter systems are already in use by operators worldwide in corporate, rescue, firefighting and utility missions.

Successful development of the IBF resulted from a strong partnership between Donaldson St. Louis and AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica Company.

The A119/AW119 Ke IBF system features flat filter assemblies with an integral bypass design creating a sealed intake plenum. The emergency bypass capability is an important IBF feature and is not included in most traditional sand filters and particle separators. A simple compact cockpit switch allows for indication/activation of the bypass system, and an integral Filter Maintenance Aid also allows for on-condition inspections, pre- and post-flight, to assist in mission planning and visual inspection of filter condition. No restrictions are imposed for flight in falling or blowing snow or with visible moisture in non-icing conditions.

Installation is straightforward, with a drop-in design requiring little aircraft modification.

The system is in use by Koala operators performing law enforcement, firefighting, utility and maritime surveillance missions across the globe.

Providing the most comprehensive line of IBF solutions, Donaldson Aerospace & Defense is the industry leader in the design, development and manufacture of high-performance engine IBF systems for commercial and military propulsion systems. Through their St. Louis location, Donaldson provides certified IBF solutions for the following:
