Meet an Astronaut & Kids Free at the San Diego Air & Space Museum’s Eighth Annual Space Day
Local astronaut Woody Spring is planning to join the event.
San Diego, CA - May 2, 2011 -The San Diego Air & Space Museum's Space Day celebration is set to launch on Saturday, May 28th, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Come and engage in fun hands-on demonstrations, giveaways, and activities with local and national space experts. Space Day is FREE for children 17 and under (with paid adult admission). Admission is discounted for adults with a coupon available on the Museum's website.
Local astronaut Woody Spring, whose ambitious spacewalks from the space shuttle helped prepare for the construction of the International Space Station, is planning to join us from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and share stories of his dynamic space career.
Invited Presenters include NASA, San Diego Space Society, JPL, The Mars Society, SETI, San Diego Astronomy Association, UCSD EarthKAM, The Planetary Society, SPAWAR, Virgin Galactic, Aerospace Legacy Foundation, Sally Ride Science, Astronaut Teacher Alliance and many others.
The Day's Activities Include: Drive a Mars Rover; Build & Fly a Paper Rocket; Talk to Space Experts; Design Your own Space Patch Coloring; Free Posters; Giveaways.
Fun for All Ages! The Museum's Space Galleries are also open for viewing throughout the event, including a flown Apollo spacecraft, moon rocks and space suits. The San Diego Air & Space Museum is California's official air and space museum and education center. The Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and it was the first aero-themed Museum to be accredited by the American Association of Museums. Currently on display SPACE: A Journey To Our Future, produced by Evergreen Exhibitions and presented in collaboration with NASA, this dynamic, multimedia exhibit looks back into the history of aeronautics and examines the many unknown questions of existence posed by future space exploration. The Museum is located at 2001 Pan American Plaza, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92101. The Museum and gift store are open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with admissions until 4:00 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
