EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 1, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Employee volunteers from Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) have once again teamed with the United Services Organization (USO) to provide 10,000 personal "care packages" for U.S. servicemen and women in Iraq, Afghanistan and other overseas locations.

On May 28, more than 200 Southern California company employees churned out care packages containing personal items such as sunscreen, packaged body wipes, granola snacks, playing cards, prepaid phone cards, disposable razors and chewing gum.

"As they do every year, Northrop Grumman employees have shown their commitment to U.S. troops with their eagerness to volunteer for the USO and its Operation Care Package program," said Duke Dufresne, sector vice president and general manager of the Strike and Surveillance Systems Division of Northrop Grumman's Aerospace Systems sector. "They came out in great numbers to support a cause we all believe in as a company, and we're very proud of their enthusiasm."

Northrop Grumman employees nationwide have assembled hundreds of thousands of packages since the program began in 2003. The USO created the Operation Care Package program to help boost morale of American troops by showing them they have not been forgotten.

During the recent event, Northrop Grumman also presented the USO with a check totaling $40,000 from employee fundraising activities to support the Bob Hope USO facility at Los Angeles International Airport.

The care package assembly line was located in the same building where Northrop Grumman produces a major section of the U.S. Navy's frontline carrier fighter, the F/A18 Super Hornet. As the principal subcontractor to F/A-18 prime contractor Boeing, Northrop Grumman is responsible for design and production of the center/aft fuselage section, twin vertical tails and all associated subsystems for the Super Hornet as well as for the EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft.

The USO is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The USO currently operates more than 145 centers worldwide, including 10 mobile canteens located in the continental United States and overseas.

Since 2010 Northrop Grumman has been the corporate sponsor for the USO Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman. This year's game features the Navy Midshipmen against an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team and will be held on December 28, 2011 at 4:30 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The Military Bowl seeks to generate broad support for the USO, positively impact the regional economy, and honor the U.S. military and their families.
