Malaysia Airlines to Further Reduce Carbon Footprint with Pratt & Whitney’s EcoPower® Engine Wash

Malaysia Airlines has signed an exclusive five-year agreement for Pratt & Whitney's environmentally friendly EcoPower® engine wash service.

PARIS AIR SHOW, June 20, 2011 – Malaysia Airlines has signed an exclusive five-year agreement for Pratt & Whitney's environmentally friendly EcoPower® engine wash service. Under the agreement the airline will lease one set of EcoPower engine washing equipment and will perform its own washes at K. L International Airport, Malaysia. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.

"We are eager to utilize Pratt & Whitney's EcoPower engine wash service as this contributes to significant decreases in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions throughout our fleet," said Tengku Dato Sri' Azmil Zahruddin, Malaysia Airlines' managing director and chief executive officer.

"EcoPower engine wash service is a fast, simple and cost effective way for Malaysia Airlines to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions," said Lou Quattrocchi, Pratt & Whitney Product Line Management vice president. "The closed-loop system collects and recycles water making the entire process environmentally friendly and takes less than 90 minutes to complete."

Pratt & Whitney's patented EcoPower engine wash system reduces fuel burn by as much as 1.2 percent, eliminating approximately three pounds of carbon dioxide emissions for every pound of fuel saved, while also decreasing engine gas temperature, increasing the amount of time an engine can stay on wing.
