Officials: Planes Can Land at Night at Penn Valley Airport

Two officials at the Penn Valley Airport in Selinsgrove said Saturday that comments stating the airport could no longer accept night time flights were incorrect.

“Any pilot can land any aircraft at night at the Penn Valley airport under visual flight conditions,” James Taylor, general manager of Energy Aviation, said. “Under instrument flight conditions, we have only one approved night time approach, but the winds have to be favoring that runway.”

Steve Bowers, the manager of the airport, was misinformed when he told members of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee on Friday that the FAA had “de-authorized” them for night landings, according to Taylor and Bruce Witkop, chairman of the Penn Valley Airport Authority, which is comprised of nine local municipalities.
