Winnipeg Airport Strike Enters Second Week

Aug. 1, 2017
Officials with the Winnipeg Airports Authority and the union representing the striking workers said both sides are in regular contact with a federally appointed mediator, but no direct bargaining is taking place.

While a work stoppage is also taking place at Toronto's Pearson Airport, a strike waged by more than 100 airport employees in Winnipeg has entered its second week, and reports indicate there is no end in sight.

According to the Winnipeg Free Press, Officials with the Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) and the union representing the striking workers — the Public Service Alliance of Canada’s (PSAC) Union of Canadian Transportation Employees — said Monday although both sides are in regular contact with a federally appointed mediator, no direct bargaining is taking place.

The employees, who include duty managers, administrative workers and various tradespeople, have been without a contract since June 30 of last year and walked off the job on July 24.
