Government Divided over Air India Future

India's civil aviation ministry is seeking to sell some of Air India's subsidiaries, such as the engineering and ground handling units in order to raise cash, in addition to restructuring debt to assist the airline.

India's civil aviation ministry says it prefers to sell off subsidaries of Air India to help clear the carrier's debts rather than seek immediate privatization.

According to a report from The Telegraph, the ministry objects to a proposal to sell off Air India. Rather, the group is seeking to sell some of Air India's subsidiaries, such as the engineering and ground handling units in order to raise cash, in addition to restructuring debt to assist the airline.
