FL: With 3M Passengers Expected This Year, Orlando Sanford Airport Plans Major Online Effort

Lesa Hines was flying home after a weeklong vacation in Orlando.

She turned in her rental car at the Orlando Sanford International Airport and walked a few hundred feet to the terminal. Her bags were checked within minutes and she soon boarded her Allegiant Air plane for the nonstop flight to Clarksburg, W.Va.

“It’s the third time that I’ve used this airport here, and it’s so much easier and faster than the larger Orlando airport,” she said.

Hines is among a growing number of travelers flying in and out of Central Florida who are finding the airport easier to use than the huge Orlando International Airport. The Sanford airport is now on a pace to handle 3 million passengers this year for the first time, officials said.
