Federation Training students will have an opportunity to undertake aviation maintenance training after the organisation received new accreditation from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
This means the TAFE will now be able to offer the Diploma of Aeroskills to its students.
Federation Training managing director Jonathan Davis said the accreditation meant students undertaking Certificate IV-level studies in aircraft maintenance would be able to progress to the diploma.
"The natural progression is for them to do the diploma and now we've got that CASA accreditation, we'll be in a position to enrol them in the next level when they complete their current studies," Mr Davis said.
"We have close links with (Traralgon-based aircraft manufacturer) Mahindra in particular, so they get the opportunity to do practical work placements, not only at this airport but other airports in regional Victoria."
He said the TAFE was involved in ongoing discussions with Latrobe City Council about the creation of an aerospace precinct in the area.
"Federation Training is a key part in delivering the training for the new workers that may well come to this area," Mr Davis said.
State Training and Skills Minister Gayle Tierney unveiled the accreditation at the ceremony where she announced $6.5 million in funding for ederation Training from its Stronger TAFE Fund.
The funding is designed to ensure the organisation has the resources needed to address skills gaps, develop innovative training and increase enrolments across the region.
"We're looking at making sure TAFE is relevant and working in partnership with everyone that's got a stake in the industry," Ms Tierney said.
"The CASA training is in addition to the training that's currently undertaken at Federation Training.
"Essentially it means they'll be able to do high end maintenance of aircraft which is really exciting and in terms of students' pathways.
