Even the biggest proponents of the technology are having trouble proving that fuel cells will be economically viable long-term versus alternatives. Toyota (NYSE:TM) is one of the most outspoken proponents of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, even ditching its partnership with Tesla Motors (NASDAQ:TSLA) to focus on the Toyota Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Even with generous incentives however, fueling hydrogen fuel cell vehicles still costs a gasoline-equivalent $50, reports Ecomento.
