Frontier To Outsource Baggage Handling To Swissport At Denver And Milwaukee

Move affects 1,300 employees and also includes outsourcing reservation work.

Frontier Airlines said Friday it is outsourcing 1,300 reservations and airport operations jobs in Denver and Milwaukee, Wis.

In Denver, 1,160 jobs will be terminated, Frontier told employees. The cuts are expected to take effect in March.

The carrier said that its workers will be given preferential interview and hiring opportunities with Swissport USA and Sitel, which will take over the work.

"This announcement isn't about job losses at the airport as our business partner will begin hiring many of our employees," said Frontier spokesman Todd Lehmacher. "Hiring will be up to the business partner. Our hope is that many will continue on. These employees have the knowledge of the Frontier operation and the skills needed to make the transition a successful one.

In a statement, the ultra-low cost carrier called the job cuts a "difficult but necessary business decision."
